We decided after much thought and discussion that we have to change our business model from FreeToPlay to a Notchware model (similar to Minecraft, Towns, and almost every other indie game out there). Meaning that you will be able to just simply pay for the game once.
The reason for this was due to us realizing that we are too small of a development team to make F2P work financially. We eventually came to a realization that in order for us to survive we had to change our model to one that sold our tech as the forefront and not cosmetic upgrades. Basically we didn't want to be forced into selling fundamental game content that would make the game Pay2Win, so that's why we ditched F2P, because we are against that sort of thing. We originally decided upon F2P because we really liked how anyone could just jump in and join, but alas, we did not understand the business behind it. So from this day forward, StarForge is no longer FreeToPlay.
We appreciate everyone who has supported us and already bought Hatch Points. So anyone who bought Hatch Points will automatically get their accounts upgraded to having purchased StarForge. This means that you get all the future updates for free until the final release.
As for the Founders Club members, your account will also reflect as having bought the full game, and you will still be receiving your exclusive perks in the near future. We also plan to add more perks to the Founders Club in time. You will also be receiving an additional copy of StarForge through email in the near future that you can gift to another account.
The options to purchase StarForge are now as follows:
$14.95 - Alpha Sale, %50 off. This gets you the full game and all of it's updates until the final release.
$75 - Founders Club. This gets you a large amount of exclusive perks and your name in the game plus 2 copies of StarForge.
Feel free to let us know any questions or concerns below, or email me at sworin (at) codehatch.com - We are sorry if we caused you any confusion or disappointment.
Thanks again for everyone's continued support. We are making great progress and we think everyone will be extremely happy when they see it in our upcoming IndieGoGo launch video and game update on October 25th!
We have also just released update V.0.1.5b which contains the first playable of our Infinite Procedural Voxel Terrain! Plus, it also contains many movement fixes such as a falling animation, tighter controls, and inventory additions.
You can get it here:

What?!? No more F2P?!? Well well well, look what we've got here: a takesy backsy. Kid, I oughta squash you like a BUG.
Nah, not really. Founders club was totally worth it simply because StarForge is one of the best ideas I've ever seen in action.
Keep up the good work!

Is the game gonna be F2P until its actually a GAME?
I mean, I tried it months ago when the first wave of buzz came around & It was just something to mess around with. Really awesome but not a game.
I dont wanna shed cash just now because IDK for sure if its worth it, But Id like to try it to see how it plays too. (Kinda like how Minecraft had that free version without mobs or anything, Just some type of "creative mode")

FreeToPlay was what put me off this game, I'm glad to see it gone. There's something that feels so exploitative about that model.
That said, other folks will not likely be so pleased. They were promised a "free game". I hope there isn't such a backlash, but it wouldn't surprise me.
In any case, I'm looking forward to future developments on this game. You guys have done an excellent job so far.

We plan on making sure the demo always contains some core gameplay so people who are on the fence can try it out as we keep working on it in the future. However, the major features such as MultiPlayer, Infinite Terrain, and many others will be for purchasers only.
We appreciate everyone understanding, it is great to have such support! We can't wait to show everyone what is coming on the 25th. :)

i actually liked the founders club because it's unlimited credits thing but now they don't exist anymore it's kinda needless to get it

I actually like this very much, but I'll wait to see where this goes before deciding to buy it. I agree with the dude above, f2p seems exploitative, though you guys did a good thing trying to make it not pay to win. Are you planning on having single player modes? If not, I probably won't buy this. However, if there is at least a basic friendly AI and a level editor, I will definitely buy this. Otherwise, it depends. It looks like a great game, and it's amazing work you are doing, but I don't really like multiplayer games, except for with friends.

Were intend to always have as much singleplayer gameplay as we do multiplayer. A.I will be one of our central focuses in the near future. So no worries on that. We do plan to support modding at a later date as well.
Thanks for your interest. :)

:O
MUST BUY!!!
And modding is always a plus, though not exactly a level editor. I didn't expect one though, so I'm still happy about this. Now my only concern is optimization. My computer can barely play this on low, though I can play Borderlands 2 on max settings(with occasional lag). I understand that this is early in development, so I don't expect much optimization now, so I'm not too worried. And even on low, this game is awesome. Jumping of cliffs is amazingly fun, and using the stupidly overpowered gun as a jetpack is insanely awesome. My only suggestion is to make the camera not follow the player rotation in midair, to allow for backflips and such(which already happen, making it impossible to control).

Later this year were gonna focus a few weeks on doing nothing but optimization. StarForge is very un-optimized currently and there is lots we can do and will do in the near future. Were just trying to build our base technology first.
Posted by: Will | 10/17/2012 at 09:14 PM
Of course, I understand. Especially with something so complex and new. Like I said, I expected it to be unoptimized. An optimization pass will be nice though. Keep up the good work!

Damn, I was looking forward to playing. :/
Guess not.

"$14.95 - Alpha Sale, %50 off. This gets you the full game and all of it's updates until the final release."
This is what concerns me. Not price (which is fair). Not free updates (which is cool), but the last part. Does that means I will have to buy SF *again* when final game is here?

Sigh, i hope the demo won't have a time limit with the worlds and so...i guess i should of downloaded it before it went P2P. well, i understand though. :)

I am more interested in Where Good Ideas Come From. I think they are born of experience and inspiration from God. you are right that an environment or a person has to be conducive, or open to new ideas for them to result in good.
